Except as otherwise provided by law or by agreement with the requester, if the custodian of the record requested fails to respond to you within seven business days of receiving a request form, the failure to respond will be considered a denial of your request.
Motor Vehicle Accident Request
If you would like to obtain a copy of a Motor Vehicle Accident please fill out the form the officer gave you at the scene OR download the form from here. You must fill in the case number if known and your name and address. Also you MUST sign and date the form and send it in with the following:
- A copy of your official photo ID (Driver’s License, State ID or Passport)
- A check or money order for $5.75
- A self addressed stamped envelope

Government Records Request
For other police reports that are NOT a Motor Vehicle Accident please download and fill out the Government Records Request Form. You only need to fill out the section in the large box and you MUST circle have or have not for the question on the indictable offense and sign and date.
Please include a copy of your official photo ID (Driver’s License, State ID or Passport) and a self addressed stamped envelope.
Once we receive your request you will be notified of the fee and will be required to send in the amount in a check or money order made out to the City of Cape May to the above address. Once your payment is received your report will be sent out.
PLEASE NOTE: We are required by law to redact all DL #’s, SS #’s, all Juvenile information, Private Phone #’s and any relevant victim information.
